My Goals

Do you have any goals?  I know I do.  My main goal right now is to become a teacher.  I learn how to be a teacher during the school year.  During the summer, I like to teach flute at a camp for band students.

 Another one of my goals is to become a better dancer.  I like to dance with my friends.  We do a type of dance called swing dancing.  Sometimes we even do flips in the air while dancing!

I also want to be a good citizen.  I can do this by volunteering my time to help people.  I can also do this by doing things like recycling and picking up litter.

You are a citizen of your town.  You are a citizen of your country.  When you use the computer, you are part of the online community.  To be a good citizen on the internet, you have to respect other people on websites and be responsible.  It is a lot like being a good citizen of your town and country.

All About My Community

I love my hometown!  I am from Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Here is Spartanburg on a map.  Spartanburg is in the upper part of South Carolina that is called the Upstate.  It is a medium-sized city.  It shares an airport with the city of Greenville, which is next to Spartanburg.

Spartanburg is called the Hub City because many trains used to pass through our city.  Many trains pass through our city still today!

My favorite place in Spartanburg is a restaurant named Gerhard's Cafe.

It serves Austrian food and pizza.  Gerhard's pizza is the best!

We have many fun events in Spartanburg.  Our two most popular events are Spring Fling and the International Festival.

This is one of the posters from Spring Fling.  There are lots of fun games to play and there are even rides.  Spring Fling is always the weekend of my birthday, which makes it extra fun for me.

At the International Festival people set up tents to represent different countries.  Spartanburg is home to many people from all over the world.  People from different countries like to make food from their country and bring it to the festival to share with the community.

There are so many activities to do in Spartanburg!  I like to go to the big library downtown to read.

All About Me

  Hi, there!  My name is Courtney Ketchen.  

I am a student at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina.

This is a picture of the fountains in front of my school's chapel.  It is very pretty.  I haven't always lived in Greenville.  I moved here from Spartanburg, South Carolina which is 45 minutes away from Greenville.

When I am in Spatanburg, I live with my mom and dad.  Recently, my brother has been living in Spartanburg too.  His name is Eric.

I have two cats at home.  Their names are Little Bit and Rory.

I love my cats.  They are a part of my family.  I really love my family.  I also love my friends.  A lot of my friends go to school at Furman too.

My friends and I dressed up as characters from the movie The Little Mermaid for Halloween.  I was Ariel.

I love spending time with my friends.  We do a lot of fun things like watching movies and dancing.  We are all busy with studying for school, but we make sure to spend time together.  I really like my life here at Furman.
